Supporting the French May Arts Festival for the 14th consecutive year from March to July, the Club has played a key role once again with its Charities Trust serving as the festival’s Major Partner. The opening programme and highlight of the festival is “The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: Picasso for Asia–A Conversation”, the first major exhibition of Spanish artist Pablo Picasso’s work in Hong Kong for over a decade.

Co-organised by M+ and the Musée national Picasso-Paris (MnPP) with the Club as Title Sponsor, the marquee exhibition is among celebratory activities marking the Club’s 140th anniversary. More than 60 masterpieces by Picasso from the MnPP are on display along with more than 130 works by contemporary Asian and Asian-diasporic artists from the M+ Collections, creating a dialogue between the MnPP pieces and an Asian museum collection for the very first time.IMG_MAY25_Charities2_Cap_1 Caption: Officiating at the opening ceremony of the exhibition were HKSAR Government Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law (second left); Club Steward Nicholas Hunsworth (first left); Consul General of France in Hong Kong and Macau Christile Drulhe (first right); and Chairman of the Board of West Kowloon Cultural District Authority Henry Tang (second right)

Selected works on display by the Spanish master include “The Acrobat” (1930), “Large Still Life with Pedestal Table” (1931), “Portrait of Dora Maar” (1937) and “Blind Minotaur Guided through a Starry Night by Marie-Thérèse with a Pigeon” (1934-1935). Other Trust-supported highlights during the French May Arts Festival include French Rendezvous@Tai Kwun, with renowned French troupe Remue Ménage performing a cross-disciplinary street parade entitled “Le Bal” at Tai Kwun Parade Ground, combining visual arts, circus, dance and puppetry art.

During the French May Arts Festival, the long-established Jockey Club Community Outreach and Arts Education Programmes continue to provide enriching educational activities with guided tours, workshops, in-depth talks, screenings and masterclasses.
