HKJC Response to Tai Po Fire (issued Friday, 28 November)

28 Nov 2025

We are deeply saddened by the loss of so many lives during the tragic fire in Tai Po, as well as the injuries and personal loss suffered by many others.  Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this devastating tragedy.

Since learning of the incident, the Club has dedicated every effort in actively supporting our staff and their families, ensuring everyone’s safety and providing necessary resources for support. We are relieved to share that all our staff are safe and remain committed to providing the care and assistance needed during this difficult time.

The Club has also announced its first tranche donation of HK$100 million, through its Charities Trust, to support victims and the families of the deceased. During this challenging time, we will continue to stand by our community, offering care, assistance, and solidarity as we navigate the challenges together.

In light of the tragic incident, some Member programming will be adjusted over the coming days. This includes a delay in the launch of our festive celebrations, as well as changes to this Sunday’s raceday. The race meeting scheduled to take place on Sunday will be conducted on a fully scaled back basis. It will be held behind closed doors with only Stewards, Voting Members, Owners and their invited guests in attendance. All bookings of Members and the general public at the Racecourse will be released and refunded.

All gross income from this race meeting, estimated to be around $70 million, will be donated to support those affected by the tragedy, in consultation with the government. This brings the Club's total contribution to around HK$170 million.

The Club offers its deepest condolences to all those affected by this tragedy.
