With this in mind, the Jockey Club Centre for Positive Ageing (JCCPA) was established by the Club’s Charities Trust in 2000 as the first specialised and integrated dementia care service centre in Hong Kong, with a donation of HK$82.23 million from the Trust. With over 25 years of operating experience, JCCPA has established a leading role in dementia care services, training and research in Hong Kong.

JCCPA operates on a self-financed basis. It features a day care centre, a residential care home, a memory clinic and training facilities. The centre advocates a restraint-free environment for its residents and aims to pioneer a person-centred care approach that caters for the specific needs of people with dementia. JCCPA applies cutting-edge research to deliver best-practice, evidence-based dementia care. Trained in multidisciplinary care and well acquainted with each resident’s family background, personality, lifestyle, and unique needs, JCCPA’s staff provide highly personalised support to its residents and their care givers. Visiting professionals complement this with specialised services, including music therapy, podiatry, family counselling, and dietetic support-tailored to residents’ interests and psychological needs.

Care managers closely monitor residents’ health and cognition, providing personalised support in a dementia-friendly environment. Thanks to the personalised care approach, the centre’s well-trained staff, innovative design and technology integration, the centre is considered as a leading model for dementia care. With a donation from the Charities Trust at HK$36.92 million, JCCPA completed its recent renovation in 2024. The centre’s residential care service capacity was expanded to 40 beds, serving more families in need. In particular, transitional care for discharged dementia patients, who have become deconditioned after a hospital stay, has also been strengthened and expanded.

The renovation incorporates latest dementia-friendly designs such as a specific lighting and colour scheme, a sensory garden and a new quiet room. Advanced physiotherapy equipment and smart nursing technologies are also added to enhance care quality and functional training. Common areas, including the garden, residential care, and daycare spaces, have been expanded to offer more group activities tailored for residential and transitional care residents with dementia. These include horticultural therapy, cognitive training, and physical rehabilitation programmes that provide meaningful stimulation and social interaction, helping residents maintain independence and quality of life while managing dementia-related behavioural symptoms in a dementia-friendly environment.
