JC PROJECT LIFT was launched by the Club’s Charities Trust with an approved donation of HK$720 million as a major initiative to lift families and individuals out of poverty in Hong Kong. Through the systematic intervention model and five targeted social innovations, the project aims to strengthen the family capacities of grassroots families and achieve their development goals.

The second phase of the project was launched on 10 June. Now entering this new phase, the project is extending its reach to more communities, across a total of 24 transitional housing projects, and two light public housing projects for the first time.

At an inauguration ceremony for the second phase, titled “LIFT Together LIVE Better: The New Chapter Begins with You”, two JC PROJECT LIFT participants shared their experience with the programme. Mr Chan, a resident of T-Loft@Kai Tak transitional housing and his family’s main breadwinner, had lost his job due to chronic illness. Through JC PROJECT LIFT, Chan’s family met Thomas, a Family Capacity Building Planner (FCBP). Together, Mr Chan’s family has broadened their horizons, developed new skills and started planning for the future.

With support from the programme’s Family Capacity Building Fund, Mr Chan is now learning artificial intelligence technology, aiming to secure remote work opportunities and even aspiring to use the technology to benefit the local community. The family’s goal is to become self-reliant and withdraw from the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) scheme within two years.

Li Lian, a resident of Lok Sin Village and an avid runner, never considered pursuing sports professionally. However, with encouragement from her FCBP, Happy, and empowered by the Jockey Club Level-Up Empowerment Employment Centre, she was eager to take the first step to become a Newly Emerged Sports Experience Development Officer. JC PROJECT LIFT not only opened unexpected career possibilities for her but under Happy’s guidance, her financial management skills and savings habits also improved.

In the project’s second phase, families with regular savings and stable employment will be eligible for an additional HK$5,000 subsidy from the Family Capacity Building Fund. Over 110 community-engaged participants will serve as LIFT Ambassadors, actively promoting community activities and encouraging more families to participate.

Since its launch, JC PROJECT LIFT has benefited around 7,700 households and trained nearly 60 FCBPs to help families develop their plans and goals. Nearly 90% of participants in the High Yield Savings Scheme have cultivated a saving habit, steadily building their financial resources.
