Innovation and technology are essential drivers of sustainable economic growth and can help Hong Kong maintain its competitiveness in global industries. The National 14th Five-Year Plan indicates clear support for Hong Kong’s development into an international innovation and technology (I&T) hub, with young people as the primary driving force.

With the aim of nurturing young I&T talents, Institute of Philanthropy (IoP) and the Club’s Charities Trust have approved a donation of HK$150 million to support the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF) in launching the three-year Nurturing Future InnoTech Talent Project, with The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) as the strategic partner.

The project represents the first strategic collaboration between IoP and CSCLF focused on nurturing talented Hong Kong youngsters in the I&T field. Through an “industry-school-community” collaboration model, the project will leverage the best resources from both the Mainland and Hong Kong to enhance students’ learning experiences, foster cultural understanding and share innovative ideas.

Programme participants will undergo year-long systematic training focused on four key themes: artificial intelligence, aerospace and engineering technology, robotics and new energy. The training will include activities such as exchange visits, masterclasses, workshops, guidance from industry experts and in-depth incubation bootcamps. These are intended to enhance participants’ interest in I&T, equip them with the knowledge to solve real-world problems and prepare them to participate in national and international exchanges and competitions.

Upon completion, students will be well-equipped with a competitive edge and multiple career pathways, creating a pool of vocational I&T talents with both national and global perspectives. Educators will also receive professional training, toolkits and access to exchange platforms to elevate their teaching capabilities. Overall, the project is expected to benefit over 2,000 young talents and enhance the teaching skills of around 500 I&T teachers.
